Introduce Free Personal Care Now
Our care system is in crisis. There are currently over a million older people in England left without the care they need.
This is unacceptable.
On the steps of Downing Street, Boris Johnson promised to "fix the crisis in social care once and for all."
Independent Age is calling for the introduction of free personal care, which would give all older people the support they need with essential activities like washing, getting dressed and preparing a meal - free at the point of use, like the NHS.
Sign our petition now and tell the new Prime Minister that free personal care is the solution to the social care crisis in England.
For our parents, for our grandparents, for ourselves

Since 2018, Independent Age have been calling for the introduction of free personal care. We know that 74% of adults in England aged 18-64 want free personal care for all older people and that 69% of this group would be willing to personally contribute more to fund free personal care.
Free personal care would only cost the Government 4% more than the amount they propose to spend capping care costs at £75,000. However, the cap would only benefit 1 in 10 people who receive care, whereas free personal care would benefit everyone.
Free personal care offers a fairer system that is easier to understand and could allow older people to live in their own homes for longer. It would also benefit the NHS by significantly decreasing the number of admissions and readmissions to hospital, as we have seen in Scotland where free personal care has been available since 2002.
