Sign our pledge to ensure better support for older renters

“My Housing Benefit only covers approximately two-thirds of my rent. I have to use money from my State Pension to pay £116 of my rent every week (which is £502 each month). That means I have to go without other things I need.” – Mary, 68

Too many older renters are really struggling to make ends meet.

A shocking two in three older renters who receive Housing Benefit face a shortfall in their rent costs meaning they have to cut back on essentials to cover their rent. That is why I’m supporting Independent Age’s call for the UK Government to uprate Local Housing Allowance to cover at least the cheapest 30% of the local rents and keep uprating it annually so it keeps pace with the cost of renting.

I pledge to speak up for older renters, so that no one in later life has to cut back on essentials to afford their home.
