Sign our petition to call on the UK Government to create a national water social tariff

“To keep our water bills down, we only take quick showers – never baths – and we try not to let the water run for more than three minutes. We rely solely on our State Pension, and we’re living on the breadline.”  Margaret, 80

Across England and Wales, too many people are struggling to afford their water bills.

Water is an essential for everyday life, but for people on low incomes, bills are becoming increasingly unaffordable, and support is often limited and inconsistent. That means many are cutting down on their use, like skipping showers and washing their clothes. No one should have to live like this.

Though every water company in England and Wales offers its own social tariff, there is currently no consistent national social tariff for water. Instead, help depends on where someone lives and which water company they are served by which has created an unjust unequal system.

A national social tariff for water would provide a fairer solution by ending the postcode lottery. It would ensure consistent, reliable help with water bills for everyone on a low income, wherever they live.
