Become a Pension Credit Champion

Independent Age is asking politicians from across the political spectrum to commit to becoming a #PensionCreditChampion. Together, we can work to find a sustainable solution to redress low uptake of this important lifeline for people in later life; supporting the Government to produce an ambitious action plan and reduce pensioner poverty.

Up to 1 million pensioners across Great Britain are entitled to Pension Credit but do not receive it. Successive Westminster Governments have struggled to raise take-up above 63% - by far the lowest of any national benefit. As take-up remains stagnant, new research from Loughborough University – commissioned by Independent Age – estimates that this lack of take-up costs the Treasury £4 billion per year in increased NHS and social care spending.

By signing up to become a #PensionCreditChampion, you will be sending a clear signal to your constituents that you are committed to ensuring that every pensioner entitled to Pension Credit should receive it. We will send you updates and resources from our Credit Where It’s Due campaign, and ensure you are always up to date with the latest Pension Credit policy work.

To sign up, please continue to the next page to view the #PensionCreditChampion commitment, and enter your details.

After you have signed up, you will be emailed a media and engagement pack containing materials so you can celebrate becoming a #PensionCreditChampion, including social media graphics, a template blog post and a press release.
